The Realm

Happy Feb everyone. I love this month even though it's the suckiest as far as weather goes. This year we plan to celebrate Valentine's instead of anniversary. Both fall on crummy week days. Anniversary on a Fri and Valentine's Day on a Monday. Since our week starts on Wed, Valentine's is easier to celebrate as far as getting a day off or a day off early.

I should probably be using my Malcolm icon "Boy I hate being right all the time." I'll talk about icons in a bit. Well I was right. LJ are being commie jerks about and block DW when people mess up their passwords. I'm not going to go into detail you can read about it HERE. So I just finished manually backing up my posts to DW today and I can now make a post here. I'll have to manually transfer comments to by replying to myself. Extra work but I need to stay on top of it. It will be totally worth it. The ship hasn't sunk yet. I'm just bailing water. I also deleted and uploaded some icons on DW. There is a limit there for free accounts to 15 icons like it used to be here. I wish DW would give you a few free spaces every year for being a loyal user. LJ used to do that. Probably not anymore. But I was a paid account for a long time and was lucky enough to buy a permanent account when they would offer those about once or twice a year. That means I'd get extra icons on top of the free ones you got yearly and hence that's how I now have 192 icons of a possible 262. I'm spoiled and I'm a Livejournal veteran. I should probably prune the icons here and free up space. I should only keep the ones I absolutely use the most. That includes seasonal ones that do get used one a year for that particular month. I should probably lose most of the Ophidius ones as he no longer represents me other than my artistic side. Of all my characters he's my artist. I need to update the old icon of his to using my new tablet. It's a monitor so I should do something like him drawing a really bad tongue face. Anyway, so DW only allows 15 icons but I forgot you can buy spaces for a dollar each. To me that's totally worth it to build up my fave most used icons there without having a full paid account. The free account does everything else I need it to that this does. I need to figure out what icons I really use most now. Of course most of my Fear ones, though there is one I don't use anymore. I think it was the first one I uploaded because I just needed something of his at the time. Minion's icon for sure and some expressive ones. Funny enough I love how some of my Owen icons will always be around always have a use even though I don't draw or write about him much anymore. Owen is a character I'll always love very much as he is just an extroverted version of me and a much bigger jerk. But he's the kind of guy you always want on your side and not against you.

We had a second frost for two nights since this update. I have finished putting up the top panel of mylar on the garage. Here is a video of when I first finished my dart frog tank and when I moved my little frogs into it.

I'm working on rebuilding the greenhouse frog tank from last year. The soil went bad because my frogs ate the entire clean up crew. They are in a temporarily box right now. Hopefully the new tank will be an improvement. I plant to let the clean up crew establish and I hope I can offer better hiding spots for them other than leaves.
Savings for my dog is going ok. We hope to get our taxes done this week so hopefully we'll get a return. I don't know if I can put it towards the puppy fund though because we need to get the jeep paid off. We're very close to finishing and really want that over with. It would be a better move to do that despite what I want. I really need to get a new breeder stand (budgie appartment) for the over flow birds. Minion needs to be alone. I have him in with Nautica now. He's doing way better with her, but again she stands on his fave perch and he can't talk to his mic much. There's so much going on right now and it's all going very slowly. I really can't wait to move things around by switching my computer room with the bed room. But I need to finish the walls in the master bath first. At least the parts where the sink goes. I work a tiny bit on it everyday when I feel well. The cold hasn't helped with that as when it's been really cold in the house I haven't done much.

Ok, so I can't believe I'm back here after a year. So LJ got hacked. If you couldn't see my LiveJournal you could probably see that I copied their announcement to my blogger. It did all start with profiles disappearing and I noticed that. Another thing I find interesting is they don't allow comments on that page. They haven't made a news update in forever and the last one they made was very unprofessional saying it was accidentally locked and then they unlocked it with no comments allowed. They didn't want anyone to see the update and they are sick of the complaints. They don't listen and now they don't want to hear it. So no more updates and no more comments from users because they're mean Russians that don't care about other countries and will do whatever they want with their site even if it means sinking their own ship.

Now Dreamwidth. I guess it is second best. I don't like some issues like no tables on profiles so I can organize and make the profile nice. I hate the red links. It looks terrible on my profile page, their main page and here in the type box. The Friends page only displays entries from the past two weeks. LJ has this problem too. I want to see all entries forever. If they get old I don't want to go to the individual journal and hunt them down. They should stay in the Friends page forever and have numbers at the bottom for you to page through. There are two types of paid accounts. They should only have one. If your paid account expires and you have lots of icons you get screwed on with 15 will be allowed and you'll have to delete everything else. I'm still working on that. I've got Owen Sim as my default for now and need to go through and pick 15 icons that represent the most important emotions.

The good points are DW is very similar to LJ because it uses the LJ coding. Making posts is easy. Making layout changes is even easier. What do you guys think of my colors? There is a layout called Lemon that is the closest to Flexible Squares. That's what this is. I recommend getting it. I almost have the colors right here. I think I need to make the entry tables darker though. If I can get into LJ I'll just have to get the colors from that. I saw a section for adding a background image and a header image so that would make me happy. And you can even add an entry background. So you could have three different backgrounds, but I think an entry background unless it's a gradient that doesn't conflict with your text won't work. Because it would mess up the text viewing. I wish the blue border on my entries didn't extend all the way to the right and have floating tables like Flexible Squares was. Other than that I think this is a winner. I like that my default icon shows in my sidebar. They call sidebars Modules here. So I need to work on images and entry table colors next. I wish the profile info was in the header and the big header text was centered.

So Lemon is the one I am using now. Black Forest Cake looks like it could be better than this even. I just don't like the boxes around the sidebar modules. I'd hate to redo the colors but I may experiment with that. I wonder if there's a way to save layouts to switch back and forth and not lose all that hard work.

Hum, posting now I wish this thing auto filed my tags.
Also is the font size ok? It's bigger than what I have on LJ. Kind of bothers me but not too much bigger. I know some of you have a hard time reading smaller fonts. I have it set at 14px. 13 might be better. 12 is what I use on LJ. Oh yes I must change the horrid bunny moods.

EDIT: Almost got my journal the way I want. I changed layouts. That one I had wasn't called Lemon but Lemonade. It was nice but not right. This one is way better. It's called Transmogrified and now it allows your default image in the sidebar. I like that the navigation is at the top. It's nice it has option for alternating colors on entries. But I think for now I'll keep my entries all the same. Still need to fix the ones that are purple and black. It's jarring against the blues. So I recommend this one too since it's more similar to Flexible Squares. Now, where do I change my moodtheme?
